My very first job was at Vanden Borre, a well known consumer electronics retailer in Belgium. It was the really exciting time of the second generation iMac, the very first iPod-generation and the beginning of affordable flatscreen television sets. And everybody got a mobile phone, so I made sure they got a Proximus subscription with it, as I was the country wide top seller for this provider.
B-Connected is a telemarketing company in Brussels performing tele-sales and other phone services for various companies like Belgacom, Telenet, Nuon, Hewlett Packard, Scarlet, Office Depot, Deutsche Bank, Fortis, Mobistar and De Persgroep. As team leader I was responsible for the coaching, guidance and supervision for up to 35 sales agents, working on different projects for different clients. It was a very intensive job where I learned a great deal about coaching, sales techniques and people management.

As one of the many fundraising initiatives at that time, we where engaging bakeries all over the country to sell the special Child Focus Bread.
The publisher of economic newspapers De Tijd (Dutch) and L’echo (French). With the weekend editions there was a luxury life style magazine called “BesteDingen”. My team of 10 sales agents made big sales results in selling advertisement to luxury brands and resellers, which lead to a complete outsourcing to our company B-Connected.
Belgacom was in those days our biggest and most important customer. As sales team leader I coordinated different projects for this big telco company, like customer retentions, up selling actions and corporate offers. We also did the launch of the digital television offer, called Belgacom TV, towards existing customers as well as potential new customers. As responsible I maintained direct contact with Belgacom management.
Telenet was breaking up the market with Telenet FreePhone. A fixed line where customers could call completely free during off peak hours to all Belgian fixed lines, which was unseen in those days.
With a team of about 15 sales-agents we contacted the existing customers for up -and cross sell, as well as customers of competitor Belgacom to make them switch. As Team Leader of this project I worked closely with the responsible persons at Telenet.
Leading a team of 10 tele-sales agents for a special project from the Deutsche Bank. High income persons where contacted to invest money into a secure saving account with a very high revenue over a short period. In the second stage our sales team encouraged these new customers to make an appointment in a agency nearby to discuss a reinvestment.
This project was huge but a lot of fun. With a team of 25 sales agents I lead the telesales of the new Xenta paying terminal for retailers in Belgium. You still find these terminals in a lot of shops, not only in Belgium but also in The Netherlands. It’s the well known grey square terminal for both cards with chip as with a swiper for cards without.
In the role of Area Shop Manager I was responsible for the management of the owned Mobistar Centers in the south of West-Flanders. This role involved a lot of people management and sales coaching of the staff.
